UW Medicine Supply Chain Management’s objective is to ensure our patient care experience is enhanced by delivering a robust foundation of services, operational and technical support, and the sharing of comprehensive, relevant, and highly specialized supply chain management expertise.
UW Medicine Supply Chain Management team has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, PURCHASING SPECIALIST. This position is accountable for researching, managing, and processing customer requests in consultation with the Value Analysis team, Contracting, vendors, and customers. The Purchasing Specialist utilizes a variety of resources to identify contracted vendors and other procurement options that are compliant with UW Medicine Strategic Sourcing, University of Washington, and State of Washington rules and regulations.
Under the direction of the System Purchasing Manager, the position is responsible for the review of new supply/equipment/service/vendor requests for compliance, product/vendor option research, solicitation of quotes, amendments and sole source justifications, and creation and management of complex specialty purchase orders.
This position has program responsibilities for all of the procedural areas, which includes areas such as the Operating Room, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Electrophysiology Lab, and Endoscopy, solely performing all of the responsibilities below. This position is accountable for ensuring the below responsibilities are performed with a high customer service orientation and in a way that meets the needs of the procedural areas.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Position Dimensions and Impact on UW Medicine
Review all incoming non-catalog and eProcessing requests for product, services, equipment and new vendors.
Analyze existing vendor options and available contracts, working with the customer, Contracting and the vendor.
Solicit vendor quotes following approved, procedural methods for competitive acquisitions.
Research, preparation and submission of requisitions and eProcessing entries.
Request and review amendments to assure compliance with rules and regulations.
Provide customers with instructions for the completion of sole source justification.
Review new submission for State of Washington direct buy compliance.
Document direct buy information to assure compliance with rules and regulations.
Review all new vendor requests to determine whether existing vendors or contracts options exist.
Submit information to the Value Analysis team and Contracting for product/equipment/services that require a contract or a possible standardization or savings opportunity.
Provide customers with alternate contracted procurement options.
Instruct vendors on the University of Washington new vendor registration requirements and processes.
Consult with Contracting and Value Analysis on the requirements and specifications for the creation and management of blanket purchase orders (BPO).
Consult with Contracting and Value Analysis on the requirements and specifications for the creation and management of capital/equipment purchases.
Research of existing contracts, UW Medicine, University of Washington, State of Washington and Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) for applicability.
Maintenance of equipment standards.
Use the Materials Management Information System (MMIS) to create purchase orders which include accurate and complete documentation.
Utilize various vendor and internal technologies to manage the work efficiently.
Perform procurement and related work using the MMIS. Maintain a clean organized work space.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of professional buying/Supply Chain/Finance experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required. Healthcare experience preferred.
CMRP (Certified Materials Resource Professional) is preferred.
The annual compensation shall be determined based upon the experience and the qualifications of the incumbent.
