The Cardiovascular & Specialty Solutions (CSS) Group, part of the Medical Devices sector within Johnson & Johnson, is recruiting for Project and Portfolio Management Director. The position is located in Irvine, California.
The CSS Group consists of five diverse businesses including Acclarent, Biosense Webster, Cerenovus, Mentor, and Sterilmed. The CSS Group serves a diverse base of customers in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Electrophysiology, Surgical and Non-Surgical Aesthetics, Neurovascular, and Reprocessing and is committed to delivering innovative products, solutions and programs to address unmet customer and patient needs around the world. The CSS Project and Portfolio Management Director will lead growth-enabling cross-functional critical initiatives, as well as providing direct management, coaching and development of a team of project managers. The Director will also drive process, content and business impact for large, complex projects impacting the CSS Supply Chain.
Program and Portfolio Management: • Deploy standardized PPM capabilities (from conceptualization through project execution, and including portfolio reporting & analytics, project prioritization, resource management) across SC, identify portfolio management process gaps and opportunity areas and lead initiatives to build Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) maturity • Manage the SC capital portfolio aligned with strategic priorities and business needs - facilitate project reviews and approvals through monthly Capital Review Committee (CRC); monitor and report progress vs. financial commitments through portfolio analytics, drive actions and accountability across the SC to ensure project portfolio is being executed per plan • Deploy system solutions and tools (e.g. Qlik, Planisware) to enable and support PPM processes, provide training, ensure data accuracy, drive compliance and support day-to-day system usage working with Enterprise PPM team
Network Strategy & Project Management: • Develop a network strategy thru initial data collection, identification of potential scenarios, connection of scenarios with overarching segment strategy and secure endorsement of partners and sponsors • Develop project charter, build initial project team, set project timeline, prepare and provide a business case for the suggested idea/ network optimization strategy to support a go/no-go decision • Further develop the project business case, lead detailed investigation to confirm and refine benefits, and prepare a Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) package (e.g. financials, risk/ benefit analysis, implementation plan, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs strategy, resource planning, risk assessment, etc.) to support a funding request and approval • Guide management and execution of network projects, following standard Project Management and/or FPX methodologies • Assess process efficiency and maturity (using Enterprise Maturity model), identify areas of opportunity, and implement standard methodologies to improve the process
Project Management: • Policies, procedures, and documentation for planning, executing and controlling the project timeline, identifying and managing project risks • Activities for identifying and securing the required funding and resources, managing the project team, and monitoring budget and resources • Communicating with partners to understand and meet their needs/expectations, address issues, and develop appropriate engagement • Close project as per defined objectives, handoff new processes/ systems/ tools/ activities/ etc. to base business and respective owner(s), record lessons learned

• A Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Supply Chain is required. A Masters or MBA is considered an asset. • A minimum of 10 years of relevant and progressive business experience is required with 3-5 years of direct Project and Portfolio Management experience preferred • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design, structure, and lead projects from inception to execution • Expert-level capabilities with project management and PMO tools/software required • Deep understanding of the process excellence tool set (LEAN, Six Sigma) with a consistent record of deploying these tools to improve operational performance is required. Process excellence certification and /or Six Sigma black belt certifications and/or PMP certifications are preferred • Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale projects in a complex organizational framework • The ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently • An ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the company and across our global supply chain organization both globally and locally • Prior experience in designing and deploying productivity improvement initiatives is required • Executive sponsor management & the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of management and influence decision-making across a complex organizational framework is required Preferred: • Demonstrated ability to work across functional and geographic boundaries • A consistent record of success in ambiguous and complex environment • Direct experience with people leadership, developing and coaching talent. • This position may require up to 10% domestic and international travel.
