The Director of Supply Management is responsible for overseeing procurement policies, standards, analytics, systems, reporting, training, risk, finance, and strategic programs. This includes activities associated with the processes of planning, sourcing, acquiring, managing, paying for all materials and services, as well as further developing and executing the company’s sustainable supply chain strategy based on the top priority supply chain risks and opportunities. Responsible for forecasting demand, creating and managing supplier relationships, developing competitive diverse businesses and contributing significantly to the achievement of related company business goals. Negotiates procurement terms and conditions, monitors supplier and service provider performance, and generates revenue during asset disposition. Responsible for all compliance reporting and managing related testimony at California Public Utilities Commission hearings and for rate request purposes. Overall, the Director serves as a key member of the Procurement Leadership Team and plays a vital role in developing and executing the procurement strategy and processes to support the overall business plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an energy-industry leading supply chain sustainability program: Responsible for, implementing and executing the short-, medium-, and long-term priorities of the company’s sustainable supply chain strategy to align with the company’s mission and sustainability vision. Develops the roadmap for environmental, social and governance issues within the supply chain and develops action plans for each strategic priority.
Team Development/Process/Priorities: Leads the transformation of category management practices and builds a professional organization that can effectively deal with the supplier community. Ensures processes and procedures are efficient and streamlined and forms alliances with internal Business Units to develop and implement continuous improvement. Develops, commits and delivers targets as defined in the business sourcing plans, and directs the creation of process improvements for risk mitigation on key raw materials. Ensures that purchases are analyzed on a total cost basis that considers contractual risk management, quality and investment recovery implications of goods while ensuring that diversity procurement and supply chain sustainability goals are met. Manages key procurement metrics, Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and financial milestones. Develops and coaches a team of procurement professionals while creating a positive team-building work environment that promotes cooperative and creative approaches to problem-solving and conflict resolution. Provides supply management teams feedback on strengths and opportunity areas associated with sustainability initiatives and performance.
Partnering with Internal Stakeholders: Establishes effective strategic relationships with key internal stakeholders while also understanding, anticipating and responding to their business needs, objectives, and challenges. Provides guidance and resources to support the development of a comprehensive procurement strategy including a proactive approach to sourcing needs of the business’ functions. Works with Business Units to mitigate uncertainties by planning and forecasting future demand for products and services and aligning production and distribution capabilities accordingly. Communicates financial outcomes to the Business Units- (estimated vs actual savings, payment term savings, leveraged spend, etc.). Seeks alternative ways to competitively provide related energy services to customers.
Vendor Development: Leads team to develop successful relationships and alliances with suppliers of goods and services that improve the quality and service levels at a lower total cost to company. Seeks to understand industry best practices that could help drive efficiencies and cost savings with a focus on continuous improvement and risk management. Leads the team in complex negotiations and achieves outstanding results. Ensures a strong focus on contractor safety and performance. Collects data about suppliers’ capacity and monitoring indicators of their sustainability performance.
Bachelor’s degree in any field or equivalent experience required.
12 years related experience required in positions of increasing responsibility required, including 5 years of supervisory experience required.
Ability to motivate employees, drive innovation and lead change initiatives while maintaining and increasing employee engagement.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop top talent within the supply chain profession; a recognized thought leader and mentor in category management, and strategic/project procurement with the ability to be a flexible, dynamic and proactive.
Possesses strategic, analytical and teamwork skills needed to drive a comprehensive value agenda across a diverse set of Business Unit leaders and operations stakeholders.
A forward thinker with experience leading organizations through contemporary methods and processes to deliver exceptional total cost of ownership value creation, risk management, and supply assurance.
Possesses strong business acumen and negotiation skills; skilled in complex negotiations, and able to coach team to become highly skilled as well.
Ability to track record of year-over-year performance capturing value from sourcing/category management; results always reflect a total cost of ownership and risk management perspective.
Ability to manage budget and lead monthly, quarterly, and/or annual business planning processes.
Advanced knowledge of legal terminology/contract law.
Advanced supplier relationship management, and contract development and execution skills.
Advanced ability to manage compliance across the supply chain.
Advanced ability to manage safety.
Ability to manage competing priorities effectively and resolve conflict effectively.

An MBA or other advanced academic training is desirable.

ISM, Institute of Supply Management, CPSM- Certified Professional in Supply Management preferred.
