This position is responsible to supervise all facets of Operating Room supply distribution operations. This includes daily supervision and workload management for all staff members assigned to this functional area. It provides for the technical expertise necessary to design and maintain operational excellence within the storeroom environment, and for those supply chain skills required to provide house-wide support to the customer base within this functional area. It serves the Director Material Services with support on Clinical Quality Value Analysis work, assistance with analysis on initiatives designed to bring about positive change in supply chain management, and representation in his/her absence. Handle and distribute intravenous (IV) solutions as well as sharps; needles, razor blades and the like.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the daily activities of the OR Inventory Specialists along with OR specified Materials System Handler.
Orients, trains, schedules, organizes workload, makes work assignments, monitors performance, performs personnel evaluations, serves as the timekeeper, manages productivity, and makes recommendations for personnel actions for the OR materials staff.
Provides Technical Expertise related to OR Supply Distribution operations.
Ensures the accuracy and efficiency in the receiving of supplies.
Executes on-going processes and implements new processes relating to inventory management, logistics planning, and storeroom organization.
Analyzes and interacts with the Material Management purchasing staff on low stock situations and slow moving inventory as they occur.
Leads the house-wide year-end physical inventory process for the OR.
Handle and distribute intravenous (IV) solutions, and sharps (needles, razor blades, and the like).
Provides Technical Expertise related to house-wide consumable supply management operations for Surgical Services.
Responsible for the operational aspects of the point-of-use supply system and works closely with the Material Services Supply Systems Analyst on the technical aspects of this automation platform.
Takes the lead in developing inventory and other supply chain related tools for use by departments in lowering their expense for consumable supplies, including research and recommendation on opportunities where improvements could be made to enhance supply chain activities and bring about positive change in the organization.
Applies professional discretion and judgment regarding the manner of supply support appropriate to customer needs throughout the facility (i.e. stock vs. non-stock; electronic requisition vs. automatic replenishment via PAR; consignment vs. perpetual inventory).
Support the Director Material Services on key departmental functions.
Co-chair in the OR's Clinical Quality Value Analysis process, providing input on all product decisions and their impact on facility inventory operations.
Provides assistance to the Director and BHS Leadership on initiatives designed to bring about positive operational changes in supply chain operations.
Represents the Director Material Services in his/her absence.
Creates and utilizes spreadsheets, databases, reports, and a variety of software applications in the normal course of business operations related to assigned functions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assures that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies, i.e., CMS, Joint Commission, and Department of Health.
Provides a comprehensive orientation to all new personnel and required training to all staff on an ongoing basis.
Develops and implements departmental performance improvement activities and assures ongoing staff participation.
Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with set standards and in coordination within the OR; establishes par level stocks and monitors them for proper utilization.
Maintains continued education in the field of OR Service Operations and equipment through education, literature and seminars. Provides instructions and in-service in new products, procedures and equipment in a manner that will identify and prevent resource loss and maintain safety.
Using independent judgment may effectively recommend the firing, hiring, promotion or discipline under his/her direction.
Establishes criteria for PAR levels for the OR.
Ensures proper traffic flow patterns are utilized for handling supplies.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the sterilization process.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Maintains OR Supply Inventory in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Manages Operating Room re-calls.
Creates and utilizes spreadsheets, databases, reports, and a variety of software applications in the normal course of business operations.
Accesses the Medication Rooms on Nursing units to perform daily duties, understands handling of medications is not part of job functions with the exception of items procured and stocked through Supply Chain Management.
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

High School Diploma or equivalency is required.
Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills is required.

Qualifications that include competence, courtesy, respect, enthusiasm in all interactions, and a positive attitude are required.
Computer literacy, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, and familiarity with supply management automation are required.
