In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics and outpatient surgery centers.
Administer strategies to ensure optimal level of department customer service and communication efforts Identify and execute performance and process improvement objectives, strategies and tactics for Material Services in support of DUH and DUHS goals and objectives in order to promote efficient and effective supply chain program and patient care. Direct staff to ensure optimal level of departmental customer service efficiency and communication efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Provide direction for materials and supply chain distribution functions for Duke University Hospital in the areas of inventory management, supply and linen distribution, quality assurance, value improvement and bed management services.
Provide management oversight to managers and supervisors to ensure high level of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility. Serves as a resource to material services team regarding process, procedures and systems; and facilitate changes as needed.
Plan, coordinate and administer the financial, administrative and technical operations of materials management. Will provide budget approval.
Attain conformance to budgetary, planning and objectives, and initiates corrective action as necessary.
Work collaboratively with Director, medical, nursing and staff in Materials Management to develop and maintain programs and processes designed to ensure compliance of service delivery standards; take appropriate actions by implementing and managing customer service contracts and surveys.
Troubleshoot all operational issues, identifying an immediate and long-term solution. Implement changes to improve operations. Recommend and establish organizational committees related to the effective functioning of the organization objectives; seek opportunities to promote the vision and values of the organization.
Serve as an operational and technical resource to materials management in the communication and resolution of related issues; negotiate successful resolution and educational about materials management. Ensure appropriate allocation of personnel to meet staffing and scheduling needs; assist subordinate leaders in resolving employee relations issues; participate in the interviewing, selection hiring and training of staff.
Monitors and reports quality and productivity metrics and takes appropriate action.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field. Preferred degree in logistics.
Experience
5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare leadership/management. 2 of the 5 years of experience must be in supply chain/logistics and 1 of the 5 years of experience must be in a management capacity.

Ability to introduce change and implement new programs and strategies.
Possess a sense of urgency and a proactive, customer service philosophy. Possess a high level of interpersonal skills necessary to work cooperatively with a wide variety of constituents.
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of customers through the practice of quality service principles.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills. ' Knowledge of automated materials management functions.
Ability to lead and manage staff.
Possess expert knowledge of preparations and understanding of financial and statistical activity reports.
