For Rhode Island this ranges from $98,300.00 -$147,500.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
For Boston, MA this ranges from $109,500.00-$164,300.00 plus benefits and retirement program.

The Mechanical Category Manager is responsible for the development and execution of category strategies for assigned Mechanical Equipment related categories. These may include AHUs, RTUs, Chillers, Fire Suppression, Plumbing, Building Automation Control Systems, and related major components/connections of these systems. This role has primary accountability for providing technical and commercial expertise in support of category activities ensuring alignment with companywide strategies, project objectives, and overall business plans.
This position is posted for Providence, Boston, Houston, Philadelphia, Arlington and Chicago. However, the ideal candidate can work from any local Gilbane office and we are willing to consider a Hybrid work schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as an SME to lead, develop and implement category management strategies for assigned category or categories. Deploys across the organization to:
Provide technical expertise and support to projects and operations
Assist projects in completing comprehensive planning engaged in both technical and commercial aspects, draft project specific scopes of work for equipment suppliers and/or manufacturers, ensure prequalification of bidders, RFP/RFQ development, lead or assist sourcing process, commercial and technical bid evaluations, award recommendations, and post-award administration of select major mechanical packages
Attend coordination meetings, release suppliers to fabrication and monitor delivery, attend factory witness tests and other shop surveillance and inspection activities as appropriate, coordinate delivery activities, verify major package receipts, pre-commissioning meetings and full collaboration with engineering/design parties, supplier, manufacturer, trade contractors, project team, client, jobsite personnel and others as necessary to ensure seamless project execution post-award relative to the major mechanical package
Provide general technical category support for Business Development, Pre-Construction, Purchasing, estimating, others internally
Monitors the external environment to identify costs, lead-times, innovation, latest trends and opportunities, bringing these to bear with projects and support teams in terms of advanced planning, decision making and informed actions. Provides critical input to quarterly company market publication
Ensures the deployment of strategic purchasing plans driven by customer requirements, supplier manufacturing results and capabilities, distribution and logistics objectives and business economics
Create and maintain manufacturer, supplier, and trade contractor relationships supported by technical expertise; specifically mechanical. Must be capable of managing and supporting multiple external client transactions and engagements
Develop and cultivate positive and professional relationships both internally and externally with trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (Preconstruction, Estimating, Purchasing, and Operations) – will be leader of mechanical category strategic suppliers
Collaborates to establish category targets and tracks progress against targets
Collaboratively develop and refine technical purchasing practices and tools for assigned product categories
Regularly presents to internal and external stakeholders, including conducting business reviews with senior management as requested
Leads and manages several varied projects at one time, with frequent changing priorities
Ability to adapt to a quickly changing work environment with rapidly changing needs and requests
Ability to make decisions with limited information and operate with autonomy
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiating skills
Excellent oral and written communication and people skills
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
7-10 years of industry experience in engineering, sourcing, supply chain, procurement, or a field related to the essential duties, or equivalent combination of education and experience with mechanical engineering, mechanical contracting, MEP role in construction, and commercial operations
Bachelor's Degree in engineering, supply chain, or a field related to the essential duties preferred
Knowledge of general contract, subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications
Demonstrated experience developing category management strategy and successful execution
Demonstrated experience in negotiation and contract management, including a working understanding of contractual terms and conditions and risk mitigation.

Candidate should be a team player with exceptional organizational, computer, ethical, and inter-personal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
